Oakland, California, USA |
 |
|
|
2nd Annual Oakland Youth Arts Festival: ART SAVES LIVES
at the Oakland Museum of California, 1000 Oak Street, Oakland, CA
Saturday, May 31st, 2008: 12pm-9pm
"Art Saves Lives" Oakland Youth Arts Festival: a multi-media festival of art making, exhibition and performance.
The arts provide a unique outlet for our youth and our communities to show what amazing inspirations, dreams and connections we each have within us. Further, we believe young artists' creative expression of their truths in particular act as a catalyst for youth movements and community organizing in Oakland and beyond. However, we so rarely get to experience the amazing youth arts happening across Oakland in one place, at one time... until now!
This year's festival highlighting youth artistry from all across Oakland coincides with the "Cool Remixed"* urban arts exhibition at the Oakland Museum of California, which serves as our inspiration for this year's theme… urban youth arts in Oakland ignites joy and passion for life in our communities: ART SAVES LIVES.
"Art Saves Lives" is the second incarnation of the annual Oakland Youth Arts Festival at the Oakland Museum of California, sponsored by the Oakland Unified School District, hosted by Mind Power Collective in partnership with the City of Oakland, Alameda County Office of Education's Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership and a variety of Oakland's arts, youth and community organizations and leaders.
