Start: Tuesday, January 12, 2021 8:00PM
End: TBD
A richly flavoured musical fusion blending traditional Persian Classical with Western Jazz, improvisation and the spine-tingling vocals of Dharawal woman, Sonya Holowell.
Hamed Sadeghi’s Eishan Ensemble and guest vocalist Holowell’s collaboration delivers entirely original music with segues into improvisation. These fresh sounds revitalise the traditions of Persian Classical and Western Jazz for a spellbinding musical treat that defies labels.
Afternoon Tea at Six tells seven stories. “We drank a cup of Persian black tea before every rehearsal,” says tar [Iranian lute] player and composer Hamed Sadeghi, “and tried to narrate the stories with a different texture.”
The music draws on the personalities of the individual musicians, leaving plenty of room for improvisation and originality. Come for (late) afternoon tea and immerse yourself in the heady atmosphere of Sadeghi’s fusion style, as the Eishan Ensemble and Sonya Holowell recreate stories of our time and celebrate the finding of identity.
Runtime: 70 mins
